Chrysler antenna adapter on mine and it works fine. Do you have a normal length antenna? (vs a "stubby")

First off thank you for proving the antenna adaptor is correct, no one seems to believe me on that and is there a way to test if it's the head unit? Or is it possible that the adaptor could be rubbing or laying against metal inside te dash? I was thinking of pulling it out and taping it up

I have a similar problem, but it did not start when I installed a new radio, but was there when I purchased the vehicle. For several years the radio has not had good reception. I have been told that maybe the HHR antenna is amplified. If so, the amp may not have power or may be defective. I am looking for more information on the antenna setup. I would appreciate any help, and will post if I find it myself.

EDIT: Mine is the pioneer non amped [sound] and I am looking into it possibly being that there is and amp and it is not getting power or not working. [the pink wire?] ref this post...

Some radios just have really poor radio reception. I have a INA-W900BT Alpine nav unit and the radio reception sucks. Pioneer used to have the Super Tuner III's and they were one of the best tuners i have ever come across. The Chrysler antenna adaptor is the right part and has been back to the DCGM09 days. I figured that this would be common knowledge now days. Anyways I think your radio is your isuues. If everything works the way it is supposed to and you have flawless audio on CD and IPOD then its a bad tuner in the radio. I would not waste the time to remove it or exchange it, becuse your probably going to have the same issue with a new one. sorry man, goodluck

No it's not just a poor head unit something is just not right, whenever I go under an overpass or even go across a bridge with metal columns on it I loose all reception on AM. Never had this problem untill I put new head unit in and had to wire that adaptor kit in it, my only thought is it has something to do with having on star in my vehicle and the adaptor I put in didn't support onstar wiring only radio. I am also thinking the antenna may be amplified and I don't have it wired up but I can't find a schematic that tells you if it is or not amplified

I agree. NOT the radio. I've tried two and one's brand new. NOT the area either because I've had several cars while here, including the '04 LeSabre I have now and they don't have even a hint of this problem. I DO think it's the antenna, I do think there is an amp on it, and I do think it's faulty. I found the pink wire and hooking it to ANY power [12v] do not improve or worsen the reception. So, if there is an amp, it's dead. If not, then I would think crimped coax. FYI, you have to use 50 ohm wire which is specifically for antennas. 75 ohm wire [TV coax- RG59, RG6 - will NOT work] I am going to get another antenna and see it if helps. If so, I will work on replacing whatever is faulty in that circuit.
