Radio installed

My buddy's shop just got the HHR LAN adapter in. It is made by Metra, and plugs right into the stock harness and into the aftermarket radio. Since mine has the sub and amp in the back, the harness has 4 RCA jacks that plug into the front and rear radio outputs. And, somehow, the sub works. I am not using my radio amp as I originally planned-my speaker wires are all in the back near the amp. If I want to do that in the future, I will have to run new speaker lines through the car. For the time being, I am using the Pioneer amp that came with the car, and it sounds a million times better (and louder) with my head unit. I did swap the HHR 'premium' speakers for my old Rockford Fosgates. I kept the pillar tweeters-my friend said they were fine. My next plan is to use one set of the RCA cables I have already wired and hook up another sub with a nice mono amp.

The only problem so far is that the adapters dont fit in the stock radio compartment (my new radio adapter has a pocket that takes up the space at the bottom) so I have to rewire everything tomorrow and relocate the adapters behind the radio compartment in the console.

Here is how the radio looks installed. Unfortunately, my camera's memory lost all of the pictures I took as I did the install. Especially upsetting is that I had to do a major/minor (depending how you look at it) alteration to get the adapter to fit. There was not enough room in the compartment, and trying to feed the wires through the back seemed more trouble than I wanted. So, I cut out a large section of the plastic. There are a bunch of holes and slots, so I basically made cuts connecting them to remove the piece. Now there is plenty of room, and running wires is much simplier.

Next-since the GM LAN only used the front and rear preamp RCA jacks, I will utilize the sub one and hook up a nice box. Bass is surprising good now, so I think the added thump will sound great(er).

2 Question: What are the three buttons where the air bag notice was?
Thanks for sharing.
Same questions I had Karen!

Great looking set-up!

The thing under the flasher is a 12 volt socket for my radar detector or any other accessory. The three buttons are for air horns, siren, and to control my back up beeping sound.

By the way, before anybody asks, the wires in the pocket under the radio are for MP3/IPod connection and the other is from my headphones for my cell phone. I have the headset behind the front seats and the wire runs there. The 2 pieces on each side of the panal are for my cell phone and I Pod.

(My phone is not bluetooth).

Thats the way most of the harnesses are made. That way they can fill the large spot the OEM unit takes up while using a standard size aftermarket HU.

Not as bad as some of your questions!

It is not a gap-it is a storage bin. Good for remote controls, glasses, etc.
