Speaker Recommendation
I would like to replace the four door speakers in my HHR and was wondering what brands/model#'s other people are using and do you like how that particular speaker sounds? Thanks for any input you can pass along.

I used MBQUART component in front and coaxial in rear, sound great, the stereo shops quit using them, cause we can buy them so cheep on the internet. I actually paid less than that for the good ones, because they had some left on the shelf. They make three levels, I got the middle ones, cause I'm not planning on 300watts. They sound tons better than the pioneers. I hear stuff I didn't know was in the music.

Pioneer man myself.
Put together a Pioneer Stage 3 System and it ROCKS!

Just changing the door speakers will sound a little better, but not much without at least adding a AMP to drive them. IMO.

The local shop here carries Hertz speakers (Italian). They have a very natural musical sound. I went in thinking I wanted Alpine Type-Rs, but their speakers seem to have a tuned bass response to make your pop/rock sound all amped up and boomy.
Since I listen to a lot of jazz and other music as well, I wanted a more flat response.
The entire Hertz line is tuned by the same guy. I splurged and got their "Hi-Energy" line components. Mounted the tweeters on the door panel instead of the stock locations (we thought the location behind the boost gauge was dorky)
It sounds GREAT with just the stock head unit, but yes stage 2 will be adding an amp eventually - jazz and classical music is recorded a little quieter and the stock head unit can't drive these speakers that hard.

I have had infinity, Boston pros, and Quarts to name a few. The infinitys were okay but nothing special. The Bostons are clean and relatively flat but expensive. I prefer the Quarts. Some have complained that they're brassy, but I love horns. I don't find them to color the tone excessively. A properly set up crossover will make a huge difference with any speaker.

Thanks for the replies so far, also, does anybody know the maximum depth an 8" subwoofer can be and still fit in the OEM subwoofer place? I would like to replace the factory sub with a better unit and then add an amp to push it, but I need to keep it in the factory placement. I know it looks like a few people put an 8" Kicker in there, I also see JL, Kenwood, Infinity, all make 8" subs with varying depths.
