My wife loves OnStar. I used to be a fan, but no longer. I have had nothing but trouble trying to get it turned on for the new 2010 LS that I got for my mother. BTW, I completely agree about the credit card. They had been charging for my daughter's car that I had previously taken off the account. I have just now deleted the credit card from the account. I bought directions and connections for the HHR, but several times they told me that the car did not have directions and connections. The credit card showed that OnStar had charged my card, but when I contacted them they said that there was no such payment on the account. Billing could not get it straightened out. Told them the number associated with the charge and that was no help.
Then I noticed that they always stick you for one or two days less than a year on the renewal.
I can't believe that there has not been a class action lawsuit about that. You stick every customer for a day or two and that adds up to real money eventually.

I've got to say that for someone who didn't care at all about OnStar and said he would not pay for it when my free year is up.....I'm really loving the convenience of the turn by turn navigation!

Today was a great example. I gave the adviser the address of where I was going. It turned out that the address that I was given was wrong. However, when I gave him the name of the business and the street it was on, he was able to locate the correct address and I found it without issue. Without OnStar, I would have been looking for an address that didn't exist!

From one Rob to another, get a GPS system. They are really cheap and there is no monthly reoccuring charge. If you don't have the funds (around $69), when's your birthday or if not how about Christmas gift?

My wife has a Garman. Not sure how a Garman would have helped under these circumstances (I was given the wrong address).

Is there a "Moral Obligation" with On-Star? I mean, say your in a bad wreck, and you press the blue button and an On-Star operator answers and you request an ambulance. If your service with On-Star is lapsed or non-active can they hang-up on you or deny your request???? I would hate to be the lawyer arguing that one. Especially if they asked for your CC# before calling for help.

I like everything but the price concerning OnStar. Nothing but good experiences with them on lock outs, a wreck that the airbags deployed and turn by turn.

I do wish that they could get the price down. Then again, it does cost money to use those satellites, and having to pay actual "live people" to answer the OnStar calls and plug in directions etc.

At ~$13/month..$156/year

I've been driving for 45 years, no accidents. I did lock my car keys inside once so I would have paid $7020 to have the door opened.

AAA costs me about $80/year and they will open the car up for me and I have used the towing a few time when my car died on trips. Only a cell phone call away.

My Garmin GPS moves from car to car and was a one time cost of $129..
Old Lar, stop being so sagacious and sensible!

The military bought and paid for those satalites years ago, and they are only being used as a relay! Once something better comes out they just re-name 'em and put a TELSTAR designation on it(we now have three nets at various altitudes). On-star is working "old" bandwidth, and I agree with most... the price should come down, a bit, I mean over $18.00 a month for directions and the once in a while car wreck or unlock is a bit steep, but again someone who makes a lot more money than me, posed the question---- what price for piece of mind?

I still want to know what happens if your service laps and your in a wreck and hit the blue button.
(I have noticed that anytime a question of legality comes up on the forum, the usual responders, run like roaches from a light. Or they don't answer at all fearing what might be used as a paper trail) People these days "knuckle" too easily.
