Question Stock Speaker Impedance?

For those who have replaced the speakers in an "upgraded Pioneer" system, what is the impedance of the stock units? 2 Ohms, 4 Ohms...

Thanks for the help!

Kevin

hey, thats me!
I have the base system, so you should verify the 2ohm statement with someone who has worked on it. I read it on here somewhere.

Premium is 2 ohm for sure. If you replace them you can get a set of 4 ohm with higher sensitivity and retain the volume level. Just not that many 2 ohm aftermarket speakers. Infinity makes some, but they are harsh and for the price there are far better sounding ones.
2 ohm is double the wattage as 4 ohm. The stock speakers are 84 db sensitivity. So look for a set of 4 ohm with 90 db sensitivity or higher and you will not loose any volume. Just for reference a 6db gain is equal to double the wattage. Double the wattage is a 60% gain in actual volume. Decrease the wattage by half you loose 6db by going to 4 ohm. Increase sensitivity to 90 db for a 6 db gain over stock and you are back even with the output of the 2 ohm speaker in perceived volume.

Thumbs up Thanks bigflipper!

Thanks bugflipper, I really appreciate the 2 ohm confirmation. The additional sensitivity information is also appreciated.

I measured 2.7 ohms on mine. I would think that makes these more likely to be 3 ohm. The sub is dual 2 ohm ran in 2 ohm stereo mode at the amp.

I have new speakers and adapter harnesses ready to install, I just want to have a definite answer before I jump in-I have the Pioneer upgraded system-Do I need the adapter rings for the speakers or will they bolt right in? I know the base level system needs them but I couldn't find a definite answer about the Pioneer system.

That will depend on your speakers going in. I have not replaced my factory (amplified speakers) yet but when I took them out to look at them and the hole it looked like a standard size 6.5". But every brand of speakers is different so without knowing what ones you bought then no one will be able to tell you yes or no. I can tell you that there is plenty of room infront of the factory speakers to be able to use speaker spacer rings without hitting the interior panel.

I haven't had my doors apart yet but I have worked on other GM products that need some adapters for the best fit like these http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...AGMHR634B.html
