Stock Subwoofer Specifications

Hello all, my subwoofer quality has declined significantly and I have reason to believe that I may have blown it recently. With that aside, I am having trouble finding information on whether the stock amp required a single or dual coil subwoofer? I understand that to fit in the stock area it should be 8" and 2 ohms.

From reading back through some old threads, the speaker linked below is a drop in replacement for the OEM Pioneer subwoofer.

Dayton Audio SD215A-88 8" DVC Subwoofer 4 Ohm - Subwoofers - Loudspeaker Drivers By Type - Loudspeaker Components

The stock subwoofer is a dual 2 ohm 8" shallowish woofer. The sub is 3.75" in top mount depth. The amp is very weak and will not do very good at powering most aftermarket dual 2 ohm subs. If you do replace it, try to find a sub with the highest db sensitivity rating you can. You can build a spacer ring to let you mount a deeper sub if you want but you may end up needing to cut out the factory grill opening in the interior panel. Others have done this in the past. If you look around the site you will find some pics of this.

Thanks for the additional input 07.

My days of car audio work date to the era of Kenwood AM/FM Cassette decks and Pioneer 6x9's cut into the rear parcel shelf.

Thank you for your input. So the Dayton is 4 ohms but stock is 2 ohms. I want as close to plug and play as I can get, so buy a 2 ohm sub rather than the Dayton?
