Question Sub doesn't have enough thump!

Hi all.

I never had a vehicle with a sub and don't know how much they should give out, but with my new HHR, the sub is sooo low!
I turned up the bass on the radio unit and only way I can hear it is if I turned up the volume I can hear it, but then music is too loud.

Can anyone help this newbie out?

Thanks

The factory box and sub sucks. Put a new amp and box in.

Welcome to the forum!!!!!!!

You can jsut change out the sub. Maybe put a ten inch in there, but If you really want to get all the performance of an aftermaket sub you should get a line convertor and new amp.

So then i can just go to Best Buy and pick up a 8 inch sub then right?
I'm not that car technical and change the amp, but will I notice any improvement with replacing the sub?

How are is it to change the amp?
Just a quick swap?

Thanks.

Hmm,BIG can-o-worms this one is!
A lot of info in the forum on the many sound/video mods folks have done.

No easy answers. For a better sound out of stock head unit you will need to start with something like a JL Cleansweep and some amps.
Where to put the stuff is another matter. Folks like to add the amps to the rear tire area.
Wiring can be tricky. Be sure you get someone who knows these modern cars. The HHR has a GM LAN system according to my AV guy, and it is very new. Because it is new, not many harnesses are available for it. One is coming out in August according to my guy.
Anyway, a number of forum members have added a sub and amp. This should be no problem. Help is not far from your keyboard.
Good luck and have fun!

The subwoofer is the main disappoinment I have found in my HHR- we listen to harder rock and need more oomph.
But there is no one capable in this house and I am really reluctant to turn this car over to some guy in a shop that I found in the Yellow Pages. Are there any industry certifications or standards I need to look for to find someone competent?
And I don't want to sacrifice my cargo area, either.

What to do, what to do...

Our local audio guru has been around for twelve years or so. Look for someone with that type of longevity.
It usually means they do a decent job and keep some of theeir installers a long while. Our guy has picture shoots in magazines, etc.
Go to a car show and ask around. The gear heads usually know who to go to when they don't do it themselves.
