Interesting Note: Garmin has announced that it is entering the Smart Phone market for mobile phones. They are bringing out the NuviPhone. A full-featured smart phone that includes the Nuvi navigator built-in. Pic looks very similar in style to the iPhone. There is also a new company offering mobile service in the states - Helio. I changed because they offered a terrific package of unlimited minutes, unlimited text, unlimited email and unlimited data with full HTML browsing. Their service also works at my weekend getaway where my Sprint service did not. The Ocean, their top of the line phone, includes GPS and comes with Google maps built in, as well as Garmin navigation (either by daily rental or by monthly rate). Works great.

Yeah, this is where the trend is going- getting everything on one device. Which leads me to... I get my NAV on my cell phone (Verizon in my case). It has some drawbacks but generally works great. Didn't have to buy a device. And I don't have to mount it, hide it, remember it or anything else- it's always with me!

Um..... NO.

Disconnecting the "battery" has no effect on OnStar once the battery is reconnected.

I've disconnected enough batteries in OnStar equipped vehicles to know.

How well does this work for you? I am looking into getting the same set-up. What I really wonder is how long does the battery last and would it be a good one for back-packing / day hikes?

now i have used my gps on my cell phone.... verizon, and have had no problems. like the protable part... but i dont have to worry about what if it breaks....
