Wiring mids in doors and tweeters separate
I got a build thread going. Just taking a break atm. I will be done some time tonight and when complete I will come back in and update the build log with Pic's of how I wired my cross overs and fed them thru at the kick panel.
It was a PITA and that is an understatement.

But yes you can intercept the factory wires before they split in the harness in the kicks. I mounted my passives in the dash. The left side is behind the knee bolster and the right side is mounted below the blower box as far from the motor itself as I could get it.
Just got a 2006 HHR LT and the speakers were less than desireable. I was worried about the stock head unit being able to power aftermarket speakers, but went ahead and replaced all the door speakers with Kenwoods.
Install was a peice of cake with the Scoshe adapters, wire harness and some hushmat. KFC-P709PS in front and KFC-1634PS in the rear. slight fade to the front and I am completely happy. These speakers can take 70/80watts a peice and the stock head unit powers them fine. There was a crossover included wit the components that I spliced to the speaker side of the wire harness and tucked away.
The bass response on the front speaks is great for 6.5"!!! Not trying to compete with SPL, but the music I make and listen to is bass heavy and these kenwoods make me second think a Sub. I will probably install a sub anyways just because...
I was previously a pioneer guy with my other cars, but after A-B'ing the speaks at the store I went kenwood.

Those kenwoods arent bad, but if you ran an amp to them, they would sound a LOT better. You could also turn the bass down from the head unit for clarity.
Look into a line output converter if you want to create RCA outputs and dont want to switch the head unit out.
The stock tweeter and mids are equal to the $70 at sonicelectronix and $140 at best buy kenwood in line filtered components.
You spent money on the wrong thing.
Sounds like you are an average consumer brand fanboy

That would have rendered my entire stereo useless until I got speakers that could handle it. Plus, on each speaker, there was a 2" gap on the surround. Speaker replacement was a must.
What speakers do you like/have?
The stock tweets were pretty good. however, there is no comparison of the stock components to aftermarket (whatever they may be). Anything is better than what GM sets you up with.
I would love to hear these with matched power behind them. Usually, under powered speaks sound like there is a wet blanket hanging over them. These don't ATM so I can imagine they would be great fully powered.
Thanks for the accounting advice
