XM vs Sirius

I know GM and XM have been teaming up for a while now.
I have Sirius in my other car, and have been very pleased, but the fact that the XM is integrated to my HHR's factory sound system is great...but the car came from a dealer...bought it used last week...XM still works.

I am afraid to ask the dealer about it, for fear they forgot(for now) to disconnect it...or maybe the previous owner forgot...

so...I heard rumors of Sirius and XM merging...I wonder if that means I could keep the HHR's current XM interface, yet keep my Sirius subscription.

I dont want to deal with installing Sirius in the HHR and have to mount the Sirius receiver...the XM integration is awesome.

anyone know what the future holds for the XM and Sirius deal?

Heard same rumors, hope they merge too. Sirius "smokes" XM with all the sports they carry. I bought a used with XM still active too. Previous owner canceled after 1 week. It depends how they were paying, by month or year(s) contract. If they forget one month, they will notice when the next bill comes in though.

The merger is waiting for FCC approval. When it does go throught the XM unit in the HHR is still suppost to work.

So how are they going to get approval? That would be a monopoly and the FCC kinda frowns on that. Ask Dish and DirecTV when they tried to merge.

I would think they would go the way of most similar mergers, form a "competing monopoly" similar to duracell/energizer. Advertise against each other, get lots of customers, while still being one company.

Actually, it's the FTC, not the FCC, that is having issues with the merger. Chances are that everyone would have to upgrade because XM and Sirius receivers are tuned to different frequencies for the satellite signals.

BTW, did you know that GM was also involved in the whole DirecTV/Dish Network merger too? GM owned Hughes Satellite, which started DirecTV. Echostar owned Dish Network at the time and was bidding on Hughes when GM was spinning them off in the late '90s.
