Anyone try 205/55/17????

Oddly enough I am kicking around the idea of going to narrower tires on my 2LT.

My thoughts are better gas mileage, better handling the grooved roads where I live, better rain traction, better ice traction, less road noise, and better ride. Negatives would probably be poor handling, worse snow traction, and shorter tread life.

Not sure if these are too narrow for the 17x6.5 stock rims on my stock 2LT Premier edition.

Narrow is good in snow. Just make sure you're not going too narrow for the rims, you don't want to roll a bead cornering.
I don't know how much fuel you'll save, hopefully you're keeping track now and will let us know.

Welcome.

They will be a hair taller than the 215/50's according to the calculator.

25.9 on my calc.

My concern would be to find a tire rated the same for load as the stock tires are.
If it's a lot less & you added some cargo for a trip, might overheat the tires.
Just sayin.....

Non issue , though you will find better tires in 205/50/17

I highly recommend checking out out the Conti extreme contact DWS (dry wet snow) in the stock size. Many on this forum will vouch for them. 540AA treadwear , unbelievable value..

Wow, thanks for the replies and sorry for putting this in the wrong area.

I was trying to get some Continental ExtremeContact DWS in either 225/50/17 or stock size but nobody has them in stock. Haven't looked in the 205/55/17 size yet because I wasn't sure if it would work with the rims as the stock tires already look narrow for those rims.

The Firehawks that came with the car now have 60k on them and the road noise is killing me, they never had any traction, and they wander on the crappy freeways around Portland Oregon.

My backup plan is probably the Toyo Tourevo LS tires at Les Schwab but really have my heart set on the DWS tire.

Yea, no problem good luck with the search. Keep in mind you can do any of these sizes no problem.

205/50-17
205/55-17
225/50-17
235/45-17
245/45-17

It's worth holding out , the stock tires can hardly be called rubber. More like plastic , your mind will be blown

ps. tire rack says they have them in 215/50ZR17 , also discount tire has 235/45ZR17

depends on the tire but yea , def would be meaty. most manufacturers list what their tires will fit on their site. Sites like tirerack/discount tire take this in to consideration on their site when you select your vehicle. no surprise that the rubber avil in those sizes is ... limited
