a arms
Need to replace my A arms or at least due the brushings . So I look at the build code in the glove box says FE1. So order a set of A arms from rock auto made sure they was listed FE1 ,got them fast great. Went and look at the car to see about putting them on . They are FE3 . ? is has any body else found that the parts are not right to build sheet? I guess somebody could have replace them before i bought the car but it only had 30,000 miles on it ?
or the line was out of FE1 so it got FE3 the day it was built

FE1 and FE3 both use the same lower control arms from the factory as far as I know. If you ordered and received the stamped-steel ones from Rock auto, they will fit - stamped steel ones were stock on the Cobalts, but the HHR's had the cast ones.
If you look at the Rock auto listings for the various suppliers of the LCA's, you will notice some of they specify FE1, or FE3 - but some do not specify either - they are generic between the two suspensions.

Is FE3 stamped on them? I don't know how you could tell.
As far as I can tell the only cars that have the "soft ride" option were fleet rentals, and I don't know what they may have done differently on them. I can't tell the difference since I have replaced virtually everything.

Whopper - I heard that the HHR should not be using the arms from the cobalt, since like you said they are steel vs cast ..i think due to the added weight of the hhr compared to cobalt its a hazard? i dont know..

Being a possible hazard? I would not think so, even with the added weight of the car (but not sure at all) - however, I'd definitely want to stay with the cast ones regardless.

All of the HHRs I have seen had cast arms (and 9 inch links) all of the Cobalts I have seen had stamped arms (and 12 inch links).
I was commenting on the difference between FE1 and FE3 being non-existant, if there is a difference it is not the LCAs. However, the last set I bought were listed as FE1 right next to a set listed as FE3 for more money. I got the less expensive this time, they are sitting in the stock room still after 173,000 miles.

Well i will use the one i got as i dont see difference other then cast vs steel . It my to and from work auto and i drive 100 plus miles a day so we will see how long they last before the bushing go.
