Hello i have a 2007 ls and today my wife was going to work in the morning and called and said the brake light came on the dic and it said brake,ok them it went off came back on while driving and know it is off...Well the car stops fine had the breaks done last year , so i search here and i guess it cold weather related because the temps drop to 40 degrees at night and 70 thur the day ,so i am thinking condensation causing the sensor to turn on ,well should i get my rears checked out as far as a leak and have them adjusted ? Any inputs ?My ls has about 171000 trying to make 200,000 love the car thanks ....

 

First, check the brake fluid. If it is low you probably need new front pads because the rears are not adjusted right.

Try the parking brake, it should only go 3 clicks with a moderate pull. If more you need adjusting.

Could be cold weather related, but because the fluid contracts when cold.

The other thing is; was it the TC light or the "BRAKE" light. Some people can't tell the difference. Or, was the parking brake slightly pulled?

. We'll check everything brake fluid was ok but can not tell were the level should be ,also check by the rear wheel no leaks by wheel cylinders and just the brake light was on in the morning .. Wife drove home nothing work the way it should no light... Any other suggestion ?

 

Brake fluid does not typically leak out. What you are checking it for is when the pads wear the fluid fills the brake cylinder from the reservoir, thus lowering the level. (unless somebody has been topping the brake fluid up, a big NO-NO). It should be almost up to the very bottom of the filler tube fillet.

And what about the parking brake?

 

I click three times all is fine ,my brake fluid level at the part of top and bottom of the reserve meets like in the middle of it if that helps...

 

The fluid sounds like it might be low. Just to be safe, I would put eyes on the pads to check for wear. No groove means replace them. I have had pads surprise me by wearing out way too fast.

The light isn't supposed to come on for no reason. The trigger for the light is the fluid level or the E-brake being on. If the fluid level is border line and you jiggle the car just right the fluid can slosh around making the level sensor think it's low.

 

My 2006 1LT started doing this last winter whenever the temps dropped below about 40 degrees. I bought the car new and it never did this before last winter.

The fluid level is OK.

I searched the forum and it looks like there was a TSB about this. Apparently the master cylinder reservoir needs to be replaced with a redesigned unit because it causes a false reading when the temp drops.

I am living with it for now until I get a chance to replace the reservoir.
