clunk noise advise

Hello all
I am new to this forum 1st post and a new owner of a 2006 HHR LS automatic. I have read a few posts about the typical front end clunk. My car has about 145k on it and was well taken care of, excluding the clunk.. Mine seems to happen over bumps and what I noticed that when you are at a stop and let of the brake pedal the steering wheel moves a little. I also noticed this when you are almost at a complete stop. Just trying to get a little heads up on where to start looking.
Thank you again....

Welcome to the forums.

This is a good place to start: https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/prob...g-pop-s-50648/

Initial things to check are:
- lower control arms (rear bushings are a frequent failure point)
- sway bar links
- sway bar bushings
- ball joints

The steering wheel thing would force me to look at the LCA bushing.

Thanks for the link. I did find that one and didn't find a condition that was like what I have. Was just trying to get a better idea where or what it might before so when I have it on a lift I can look at a certain area.
Thanks for the help

Lower Control Arm bushings. They hold the lower control arms from moving front to back.

You must not have read the entire thread.
CONDITION #5

Some customers may comment on a rattle/clunk type noise coming from the steering column when driving over
bumps.
and
CONDITION #6 (FE1 SUSPENSION ONLY)

Some customers may comment on a clunk, thump or rattle noise coming from the front suspension while
driving over rough road conditions or when braking.
and
CONDITION #7

Some customers may comment on a squeak, rattle, pop, or clunk noise coming from the front of the vehicle
during suspension movement.
sort of sounds like exactly what you typed. Condition #6 is what I'm thinking.
Discard any parts that specify a year or type of suspension, the TSB applies to all HHRs.

If you have trouble reading my link, just type "GM TSB 04-03-08-006E" into GoOgle, there are a few links to a pdf version.

LCA bushings press out the old press in the new! You can see the deterioration on the two piece OEM part on the right
I highly recommend Moog K200792

Had it on a lift today, and u were right it was the control arm bushings. I did notice that it has a oil leak from a sender that is above the starter. Any idea what this sender is for?
Thank you
