Springs Installed

Got my old springs off and compared to the SS/TC, quite a difference,

Ride before install,

Ride after install,

Definitely a noticeable difference, and I definitely like it! Not harsh or stiff really just firm and level. And easy to do thanks to this site.

A neat trick (you may already know) to see the difference, is to open the before and after pics in separate tabs, center the pics on screen and click back forth to see the drop.

I've been driving on the new springs for a couple of weeks now and still like it very much. Glad I did this inexpensive mod. Not in a rush to get the rear sway bar now, but will still do it at a later date.

As a side note, I recently replaced my stock rear shocks with KYB replacements which greatly reduced the pogo bounce I was getting before. So, I don't want to have to get new shorter shocks with these new springs and will hold out to see how it goes. Others have reported no need, or at most just make sure the springs are positioned correctly when setting the car back on the ground.

Thanks!
Anyone know if the Cobalt SS front springs will have a similar lowering effect? Anyone know a part number? I'm not having much luck with the gmpartsdirect website... maybe it's just me.

Hey Rick, your car looks great!
I'm going to do the same to my 06 LT. I'll be ordering the Cobalt ss/tc springs soon. This seems like the right choice after reading the forums and seeing your results.

Three questions I have for anyone who may be able to help.
1 My shocks need replacing and I feel I should be getting a shorter shock since my springs will be shorter. Read on another post that the springs can dislodge when the car is hoisted. Any suggestions?

2 My front struts need replacing also and I just want to maintain the
"level look" so I will continue to go with stock struts, correct?

3 Will I need to adjust the headlights after after lowering the rear of my car?
Thanks

ps. This is my first post on the forum so go easy on me guys. lol
I can't wait to get my HHR on the road after it long winter hibernation in the garage!

Onionhead- I have had the SS/TC rear springs w/stock shocks for about 4 years or more.

& Had it racked several times, no issues with springs falling out..They are fine. Believe me, I have checked every way possible.

PS: Yes after rear (only) springs settle, headlights should be checked & adjusted as needed.. Simple to do.. 15 minutes..

1. No problem here with stock shocks size...(replaced mine with KYB's)

2. I replaced my front strut assemblies with Monroe Quickstruts, very satisfied... (also installed Moog end links)... *

3. I have not adjusted my headlights yet, I can tell the angle has changed, but not too drastic...

*My front end "clunk" is virtually gone, I think due to stiffer rear end and new/better front suspension parts. The LCA bushings look fine, and I suspect the sway bar bushings are the only thing I need to replace for now...

I just placed my order for rear springs. I went with the Cobalt SS/TC part #25821162. Should be here in a week.
Thanks for your help guys!
Dave

btw I was at the Monroe website and searched shocks for an 06 HHR LT and an 09 Cobalt SS...they both use the same shock... part #5779.
