Raybestos makes excellent aftermarket brake parts. When I installed 4 wheel disc set ups on my 46 and 55 Fords, that's what I used. Sure the drilled/slotted looks cool and I certainly wouldnt discount trying them. Its a given that the factory rotors suck monkey testicles. I wouldnt replace w/factory.

Rear disc brake conversion

Okay, what am I missing here? Rock auto lists the following parts:
2 hoses $ 40
rear brake hardware kit $ 10
Raybestos 2 calipers w/ceramic pads reman. $320
Raybestos 2 rotors $182
2 hubs $302
2 wheel bearings $324
----------
Total Parts $1178+ shipping

I just can't see where labor could be more than $300 at
a good independent shop. So for around $1500 give or take
4 wheel disc brakes. Incidentally, all the parts I looked up were spec'd
for a 2008-09 HHR SS. A lot of common fit for Malibu and Cobalt SS.
Seeing as many people put $1500 into their sound systems I find this to be
economically feasible. I myself am looking at spending $1200 for an in-dash
nav system.

This sounds interesting and simple.
Does anyone know if the e-brake interfaces with the disc upfit the same way as the old drums? I'm asking this for my son's benefit, who has an '09 Cobalt LT with rear drums.

I read somewhere on this forum that you would need the SS rearend. The LT doesn't have a place to mount the calipers.

The flange where the hub and caliper mount is different on the SS axle beam than the LS/LT beam. There's nowhere for the caliper to mount on the non SS beam.

So what you're saying is in addition to the parts I listed, one would have to buy a rear
axle. Part # & cost?

MC and or proportioning valve required as discs require alot more fluid to operate...would really mess with the anti lock system....ummm, and maybe not.depends if pressure monitoring is involved..
