Anyone out there familiar with H&R springs. Recently I dropped my 07 LS on Cobalt SS/SC springs, although I'm happy with the ride quality, I'm not happy with the front. It only dropped 1/4". I really don't expect it to settle in 3/4". So now I'm looking again. I'm familiar with Eibach and have them on another car but the Eibachs drop too much in the rear for my taste. I believe it's 1.6" and levels the vehicle. I want to keep some rake. The H&R springs claim 1" in the front and 1.2" in the back. I've been reading some forums about H&R springs but on other cars. Some posts I've seen are pro Eibach and some pro H&R for ride quality etc. I'm hoping someone has been there. If I go with the H&R's I'll probably sell the Cobalt springs. They do great for leveling.

 

I've had my 07 LS dropped on H&R springs for a little over a month now, and I like them very much. Here are the lowering results I got.
Front dropped - 1 1/4"
Rear dropped - just under 1 1/2"
H&R part # 50740. They also have hub centric wheel spacers too.
Since I run bigger tires in the rear the rake was maintained.
215/50/17 Front
235/50/17 Rear
They're Diamondback Classic Redlines mounted on Euromax 612 17" x 7" for the "HOT WHEELS" look. (BTW I'm looking for a Euormax 612 17" x 7" for a spare)
Stance is Great. Un-lowered HHR's look like 4x4's now.
I didn't trim the bump stops and have yet to hit them, and I've had 4 passengers in the car. It rides a little stiffer but quite nice. I went with KYB struts and shocks and have the TTR rear sway bar.
I recommend these springs, and I was able to get the Camber to + 1.4 and +1.5 degrees in the front without the use of camber bolts which are smaller diameter than stock, so I kept the stock ones.
I had the Cobalt SS/SC springs on before and although I liked them, the front only dropped 1/4" and the rear 1 1/8" so it looked leveled. Actually the front fender gap was bigger looking than the rear, although it actually wasn't when measured. I hope this is helpful to all you HHRer's that want to get closer to earth.

Are the H&R's a German company.

If so, yeah I know them and had done business with them. They are a QUALITY manufacturer, who engineer and produce a product under meticulous standards......and often think outside the box. I would rate them number 1 over other competitors. But you get what you pay for....and these are/were expensive.

 

Yes, they are German. Not too expensive. $232 I think plus shipping, it was about $250. About the same $$$ as Eibach, which sounds German. The springs are dark blue metallic, almost the color of my car which is Imperial Blue. I've had Eibach's too on another car but their pro kit for the HHR said 1" front and 1.6" rear and I didn't want to level the car. Although I've seen spring spacers that come in different thicknesses to achieve desired ride height. The H&R kit claimed 1" in the front and 1.2" in the rear, I got about 1/4" more front and rear. It turned out cool. Hot Rod stance.

 

REDLINE...got any pics of ur ride with the larger tires on back, I thought about this, but wasn't sure if u would see much of a difference in size. Plus was reading on here last night about maybe some interference with the antilock & trac control. Cause any problems with yours?

 

I would think diff. tire sizes could mess with the stability control and be dangerous under certain emergency manuvers. I may be wrong ?

But i would think thats a hot look ,, Noticably smaller tires in the front. Sweet !

 

I messed with the stagered tires on my 740 sport went from 235x50x18 to 255x45x18 on the front and from 255x45x18 to 285x40x18 on the rear with no concerns cept it tears up corners now !!

Unfortunately I have no photos that would show the difference, but I think it looks cool. I'm going for the "Hot Wheels" look so bigger tires in the back gives you that stance. My car is an 07 LS (base model) so it doesn't have anti-lock or traction control, at least that I know of. It's never caused me any problems, codes or otherwise. The front tire size is the same as the stock 17" tire on the HHR. 215/50/17 It drives great, an everday driver that rides nicely for a lowered car and handles very well. I prefer H&R springs to the Eibach's I had before, mainly for ride quality. The Redline tires from Diamondback are Falken ZE-912's that performed and lasted better than I expected. I got over 40,000 miles out of the front ones and could only rotate them side to side. The rear Tires are probably 65-70%. I have new fronts for spring this year. The winter tires are on it now, which are the stock steel wheels w/ the Firestones. The car squirms alot in the snow for front wheel drive. Go figure. Maybe the Firestones suck.

Thanks RedLine, yeah I think the hotwheel look is cool, I may experiment with this after I lower it. With it being lowered the stock polished 17s may look ok to me, I love the wheels. Think maybe the firestones do suck, took it out first snow and hasn't been out since, thankfully I have one 4wd left to drive. Nice being able to keep the HHR clean and out of all that salt too.
