I doubt anyone here would do the shock dyno testing nor serious track testing mentioned above.

That said, get Konis. Install. Compare. Report back!
TYPO..... I hate my New Galaxy phone, even after entering the proper word I want it still shifts it sometimes.

as far as Koni's no thanks! if they were so great someone would be running them on an HHR SS, so far no one is, as everyone is more concerned about boost, lack there of, or just not enough. Cobalts demographic are kids with daddy's money. HHR's is the above 35 market with a lot less spending money. and honestly if I were gonna autocross, it wouldn't be in the HHR. I go to the drag strip on the weekends, not to be the fastest car, but to have fun. The wife's WRX STI on the other hand would be good for autocross, and she has already looked at coilovers, so again the Koni's are out. Now I might try the Koni's if my wife's payment wasn't close to 5 bills a month

Thats my problem too....Konis are nice, just cant justify the pricetag for the way the vehicle is operated..In my younger days I wouldnt have hesitated. Maybe Hyper can help here, as long as we have to cut up the struts for the Konis, what other Manufacturer makes a cartridge style strut that could make a viable replacement..get the stock model and may be able to cross over for the aftermarket upgrade..could be a heavier vehicle with the same strut dimensions which would give a tighter valving...you get the idea....

I'm in this this thread to research what options I have to change out shocks and struts on my wife's '06 LT. It's a 2.4 w/ the Sport Suspension. The consensus seems to be there really isn't much. Unless I want to spend a lot of money on the Koni set up I'm pretty much stuck with the OEM replacements.

KTMRider......

If you do a Search on this forum you will find MANY different threads evolving on LTs, both 4 doors and panels as well as the LSs, having the suspension changed.

You might want to review them all, to assist in making a decision.

Personally, I am perfectly happy with Monroe Quick Struts in the front and Monroe shocks in the rear on my 2011 1LT 2.2L.

Does your wife race the car, or commute/grocery get? I doubt she would know the difference, especially if she's been driving around on 8 year old shocks, anything would be a vast improvement. New ones are really only good for around 50K, the manufacturers say.

QS can be had on Ebay for around $300 a pair. If cost is the priority you can get the "no name" collision repair parts for $120 up, I have used them in the past and did not have any complaint.

The "Sport Suspension" is not FE5, BTW.

That's what I have on my car now. They were a match.

The recent posts above are not clear whether its an FE3 or FE5 he needs. I have had good experiences with Rock Auto, though, and you can always find e-coupons to cut the bill for something big like this, too.

But he did say 2LT 2.4L with "sport Suspension".

It's the FE5 suspension on my wifes car. It's just a commuter car but I don't want to degrade the oerformance. However, anything is probably better then what she is on now.

The stock suspension isn't bad when new. I would lime to get it back to that feel without spending a ton of cash.

Thanks for the input. I will continue to check out threads to see what comes up. I'm definitely going to be changing out the sway bar bushings and probably the lower control arms.

Factory 2LT's with the sport suspension was the FE3 setup.
SS's were the only one's that came with the FE5.

If I remember correctly, the descriptions were:
FE1- Smooth ride
FE3- Sport suspension
FE5- Performance suspension
