lowering...

ok i still need to be schooled on the lowering situation.my main concern is TOO low.

-anyone with the goldlines have any issues with scraping cause they look like they are pretty damn close to scraping the wheel well especially the front.

-what is the alignment kit and do i need it?

-what's the differance between 1st gen and 2nd gen goldlines?

-is replacing the shocks going to reduce the chances of scraping?

-goldline rear lowering springs- anyone got any pics? does it get rid of the rake?

as you can see i never lowered a car. i had a 92' mustang lx 5.0 and a 95' olds aurora with air ride so the situation never came up. thank you for all the help

You can never go to low

I have the 2nd gen goldlines and I only scrape when going in or out off a steep driveway.

You don't need the alignment kit or the camber kit, some will tell you otherwise, but I lowered mine with no adverse effects.

1st are lower then 2nd gen goldlines. Go with the first if you can find some.

On 2nd gen you don't have to replace shocks or struts.

Check the search for pics of goldline levelers. There are pics on here of them. Does seem to take out the rake but does absolutely nothing for the front, which in my opinion if way to tall anyway.

Good luck on whatever you decide to do. Remember, it is never to low

I had 3rd gen. Goldlines and it was not low enough for me. <G>

Got some 1st gen. Goldlines on now and just love them. I do have to be careful over speed bumps and in/out some driveways. Today I went to Homedepot and bought 8/40 lb. bags of top soil.... put them in the back.... mistake!.......Rubbed all the way home, good thing it was only 2 miles. (will take Derek's truck next time)

this is Molly with 1st gen. Goldlines right after I got them put on.

The first gen GL springs are prefect for that BMW-esque drop for an HHR. Fender sits just above the tire. With 20's and again with 18's I had no problems with scrapes and only had problems with attacking driveways head on. Angle your car for those. My 1st gen GL springs still gave me more room under the HHR than the stock SS/SC Cobalts have. Amazing too becuase my roofline was almost as low as a stock Cobalt's as well. You shouldn't have any problems with whatever you choose. I ran with the 1st gen GL and stock struts for nearly 2 years and never had a prob. Bought the HHR brand new in 12/2005 and had the springs from SoCal HHR's by January and in the next day. Removed them in 12/2007. Best drop spring I have ever purchased. Ride was AMAZING and comfort was ASTOUNDING. I cannot say enough good about the Gold Lines.

The biggest issue with going low is the suspension bottoming out on the stops. This will cause you to loose traction stopping or turning. It will also have a ride that sucks.
