Lowering My 06 Hhr
If you can find a 1st gen set of Goldlines you can get a more slammed look. I was running those; looked great, ride was hard, not just firm, too low for when I added side pipes. Goldline's 2nd gen are not as low, no idea how they ride.
There are two types of Eibaches. I'm running the 'Pro-Kit' which is a nice dropped, looks great, ride firm and not hard, I can get in my driveway with my sidepipes. Eibach's other kit has more of a slammed look.
There are other companies but I haven't any 1st hand experience with them.
Ya, I've got to keep in mind that my wife might drive the HHR from time to time, so if I go too low, she might not drive cautious enough over bumps.
Here's an important note that I found at SoCalHHR.com...

*AN IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT LOWERING: 1LT and 2LT HHR's use different size tires. The 16-inch wheels on the 1LT are smaller diameter tires and will cause the vehicle to drop much more (over an inch more!). The larger tire diameter of the 2LT's 17-inch rims will not show such a drastic drop. Please keep in mind that no matter which HHR you own, the Gold-Line springs will only drop it 1.80-inches in front, and 2.125-inches in back, from the stock height.
