What does this mean?

What is the correct way to install these springs?
Is there a top and bottom or does it matter which end of the spring is installed up or down?

Actually that is the wrong way to install according to my research. Mine are installed with the coils close together on the top. This is a pic from goldlines website. You can see the coils close together are on the top.

When I installed mine, we tried it both ways, and there were some clearance issues installed the other way that could potentially cause noise. Not trying to start a war here, but if you look at pictures on the web you will find in every case (at least that I found) variable rate springs were installed as pictured here. Please take the time to research this and come to your own conclusions, but I honestly believe installing the springs with the close coils down is wrong. And BTW I have no noise or problems with mine. Hope it helps.

Thanks, Mizz, I stand corrected. I've had mine the other way for about 2 weeks with no problems of any kind but I can easily switch them if something develops.

That is what I like to hear!! I have a little rubbing, a little noise...I just turn up the 2000 watt stereo, and I don't hear a thing LOL. Looks are always better than a little inconvenience I say!!! Todd (Uma)

I've installed mine both ways and it makes no difference. Up or down, they are still noisy. Tried the silencer "fix" and all it does is turn the spring noise into a dull thud. Not a happy camper!
