mounting rear discs...help!

want to switch to rear discs before changing frt ones.
Is the caliper mount part of the rear suspension,or does it
bolt on instead of drum backing plate.
Thanks in advance.

Rear axle needs to be switched, doesn't have disc mounts. There are a couple of how-to threads on here if youdo a search.

Like said above you need to swap out the whole rear axle assembly. The ones that have factory disc are the SS HHR's and SS Cobalts and I believe the Ion Redline will fit too.

Don't forget to add the master cylinder from an SS to the shopping list, disc/disc systems need a different master cylinder than disc/drum systems.

Prod is correct that there are some conversion threads, but the most comprehensive is ancient, the member is inactive, and his Photobucket account has deleted all the linked photos.....so it's pretty much useless as a reference.

Unless you're driving at 10/10ths, and using the brakes in a competitive situation like Autocrossing, the time and effort to do the conversion are not really worth it.

P.S. to the forum!

I have built a tab that can be welded to your drum style axle that will let you use oem ss brake parts. It is made of 3/8 steel.if your still interested let me know. There are pics in the gallery.
