I have 89K on my 08 Panel. I started getting the clunking noise and after reading on here I changed my end links. It helped a little but did not cure the problem. A little later I changed out my struts and strut mounts to KYB's. The struts were leaking. This helped the ride tremendously but the noise did not go away. This last go around I dove in and pulled the lower control arms out and replaced the control arm bushings and also the sway bar bushings.

Everything is great now. She rides like new again.
I suspect the sway bar bushings were the culprit in the noise making. The control arm bushings were worn out but that allowed the wheel to kick backward under braking or when you hit a bump.

Hope this info helps someone.

2008 with 62k miles. Just bought it Certified GM do you think it is worth taking in since it has a 1 yr bumper to bumper warranty? I bet they will just say they found no problems!

I would take it in and have them check it. These are well documented issues with our HHR's so the dealer should be well aware of them and know what to look for.

Good luck!

@IntegrityHI, even if they cannot duplicate your concerns, you can make sure they document your concerns which might prove to be helpful in the future if needed.

Another thing you can do is to take the technician and/or service manager for a ride so you can show them what your concerns are. This can be easier than trying to explain the noise you’re dealing with.
