Well I just finished replacing the LCA bushings, ball joints ,swaybar bushings and end links with all new Moog parts. The LCA's are a breeze to remove and reinstall. The hardest part was removing the old ball joints. I have a vertical hydraulic press to do the work with and the OEM ball joint rivets were a bear to press out. After test driving my vehicle the clunks are gone but now I have a clear rattle in the intermediate steering shaft to address. I replaced the rubber sway bar bushings with energy suspensions urethane bushings. I hope that was not a mistake on my part ????

Nope no mistake! The shaft has a history of problems over several GM models,

And here is a replacement part site,

Chassis ears are very cool. I get to use them at work sometimes. I work in Chassis warranty for an auto company. It's always good when the ears lead away from my parts...
what should I use to replace my control arm steel or steel alloy

Aluminum...

Do not use the steel ones, they are not meant for the HHR

Thank thank you after reading further I seen where the steel went or for the Cobalt. I see a lot of places have a pair of control arms for like 150-200 and then some places have the control arms for like 100 even 80 on Amazon. What's the deal with that and why the difference and price is there something significant I should look for? I'm changing my control arms both of them and I'm at a standstill on whether or not to just purchase the control arms or the control arms and tie rod sway bar kit. I'm pretty sure I don't need the tie rod/sway bar kit so my 2nd
question is should I just do the control arms or go ahead and do it all while I'm under there?

Control arms first, we get a discount from RockAuto, I recommend Moog or AC Delco LCA’s. And of course if you’re HHR is an SS the GM arms must be installed, because of the ball joint stub size.

So I bought the Detroit Axle brand lca's and suspension parts. Not liking them at all. Ride is crap in my opinion plus my alinement is below specs. The shop got it as close as they could but stated they couldn't do any adjustments. So I want/need to switch back. When looking at the parts on RA I see all kinds but it appears most say stamped steel. Will someone list the parts numbers that are the type the hhr requires. My HHR is a 2009 2.2l LS. Even as loose and noisy as my old suspension was, I feel it still rode better.
