One Year Later, Replacing LCA’s Again

About a year ago, I replaced the original lower control arms in my son’s 2008. Today I replaced them again because we heard a clunking noise up front and the front wheels would actually move. This time I used the Moog parts instead of the supposedly better Mevotech arms. Hoping the Moogs last longer. At least this job isn’t too difficult.

One bushing is actually broken. Both are severely worn after one year of service.

Where did you get the idea Mevotech is a premium part? They make "collision" parts, good enough to pass inspection, let the next guy worry about it.
But, there isn't much difference in control arm bushings. Oldblue says the Moog with the different type of bearing in the bushing is better. Moog K201285

Moog K201285 problem solver bushings, now that you have a set of arms to press that broke bushing’s out and the new ones in!

I just need to find a shop that has a press large enough to handle those bushings.

I use an old front brake rotor and a piece of pipe with a BFH to tap the new one into place, the old piece I cut the metal ring with a jack saw and then a pair of visegrips to get the ring out.

"pressing" does not mean a hydraulic press; you can borrow an appropriate tool from a big box autoparts store.

here are some examples

Thanks for these alternatives. Thinking about ordering the problem solver pieces and keeping them until needed. My son has a 2008 LS and I have a 2011 LT. Can’t remember when I replaced my LCA’s, but I used the Moog arms on my HHR.

Urethane bushings crack and fail about as much as rubber bushings. And Prothane makes them
