Steering Column noise

I had a noise that I thought was coming from the steering column when I made a turn. I just found out it wasn't the column at all. It was the new strut bearings that the mechanic installed with the new struts. The mechanic didn't grease them and installed them dry. It actually cracked the passenger bearing in half. If anyone is experiencing an unknown front end or steering column noise, don't rule out your strut bearings.

Hmm. Pretty sure those bearings are assemblies that are pre-lubed. Kind of like the front wheel bearings are. Sealed and pre-lubed.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I would suspect over tightening the nut, or, getting charged for parts not replaced.

Strut Bearings

I'm going by what the Chevy Service manager told me and my insurance company. He also said the failure of one of the bearings( cracking in half) was due to lack of lubrication. The new struts that I had installed were Monroe. I'm just rerpeating what the service manager told me.

So the bearings were installed at the factory in the Monroe Quick struts? Or did these get installed on existing struts?

And we are trying to figure out what he meant.

This is not a common thing.
