More or less - but get in there with a screwdriver or short pry bar and lever up on the bar itself next to the bushings - you will see if there is slop there. But I don't see the bushings causing problems with shuddering on braking.

Thanks, I will take a look and see if the sway bar is moving around. The shuddering/ thumping is on the right side. The only items that I haven't replaced are the strutts, links and the sway bar bushings.

when my sway bar bushings were shot, you could feel the thumping thru the floorboards - and could easily duplicate the issue at slow speed, by crossing severe speed bumps at an angle so only one wheel hit the bump at a time.

Any/all of those could make a noise!

Well... I'm a bit stumped.

Changed out the swaybar links tonight, been dealing with this noise on the left side for a couple years. Can't seem to place it. Swaybar links are brand new.. still have the noise in bumps and braking. What else is there? The dealership changed struts, steering rack, steering column. All but parts leading to the lower control arm. 50,000 miles. Ideas?

If you changed the swaybar links, what about the swaybar bushings ?

Found a possible answer...

Under warranty, I had the steering rack, front struts, sway bar links changed. Now out of warranty, I am saving up to have the lower control arm bushings changed (Approximately $350, both sides) The noise has joined on the right front. These are literally the only parts not changed that could experience wear and tear. This is the only reason I regret buying and HHR. Once fixed, I'll be happy again.

Hey emorris,

We certainly want you to enjoy owning your HHR! I know you're looking for answers here, but if you'd like us to contact your preferred Chevrolet dealership on your behalf regarding this, we'd be happy to do so. Shoot us a PM and include your VIN, contact info, and mileage so we can proceed with that.
