I have the same bump noises, but I just saw on CNN (today 7:45pm est) that there may be a major problem with the Cobalt's steering system, "somebody is looking into it" was the ticker. Since we are esentially the same platform we could see a legit gripe? possibly connected?

I would think that a good silicone spray would help. I have not bothered to crawl underneath and give it a good spray. My rear bushiings seems to make more noise than the front. G.B.

I read about it on CNN; It seems to be related to the electric power steering. The HHR could certainly be affected as we use a similar steering system, but the concern was about safety and the power steering system failing and not suspension noises. Suspension noises are not a safety issue and the NHTSA would not have any reason to get involved.

As crazy as it sounds, going through the carwash seems to help for a little while. I hear the noise the worst when it is both cold and dry.

Anybody out there with a 2010 having the problem ?????

I can't believe there is not a GM Bulletin out yet so Dealers can fix this problem.

Silicone Spray and Crisco ??????? GEEEEZ !!!

This Crap Smacks of Toyotas Attitude only it's probably not Life threatening.

People Don't buy a new car only to have unrepairable problems.

Mine had same problem. I took it to a chevy DLR they replaced Struts, sway bar links and steering column 90% of the noise is gone. Now still have a clunk noise on driver side front when going on uneven road or over dips or bumps. I have to drive slow over those. Also my traction control light came on and they didn't found anything. This has happen 3 times in 2 months. Taking it again this noise kills me and of course every time get TC LIGHT ON SHIFTS HARD. JUST GOT MY HHR 7 MONTHS AGO USED WITH 35000K NEED HELP.

I have an 06 with 227,000 km.(use it for work), have had the struts replaced, sway bar links done four times under warranty and twice after. I corrected the problem by using grade 8 nuts, washers and lock washers. The stock unit combines all three in one piece, the lock part strips and causes the clunk. After replacing the stock units, I have gone over 60,000 km. with no noise.

Fixed squeaks on my 2007 HHR LT

I have been having the same squeak as everyone else and discovered the fix was replacing the front struts and the stabilizer link bars. That may not be the fix for everyone but i have been going over speed humps since and no squeaks not even below 0 degrees. I replaced with Monroe Senso-Trac and Moog Stabilizer bars.

The key seems to be a redo of your front suspension with aftermarket parts.

The sound goes away after a couple of mins. But it sure sucks.
