Shouldnt the wheel bearings be under the 5yr/100000km powertrain warranty?

If you have a 2007, the wheel bearings are covered under the 100K warranty. I know for sure because I had to have both front wheel bearing replaced and it didn't cost me a dime...

Last week the Growling of a bad hub started up again, I figured it was the Passenger side Hub, I was wrong, It was both??
I just had the Drivers side replaced in August, around 5,000 miles ago.
They replaced both under the 100k mile DT Warranty.

My 2007 has 47500 miles on it. Yours should be covered.

06 HHR did not have the 5yr/100,000 drivetrain warranty. Only 3/36,000. The 5yr was added in 07

Smile RE: Left Front Hub Bearing Replaced

I had to replace the left one at 47,000 on my 2006.
Did everything myself, quite easy. Only took me 45 minutes after jacking it up. Very simple job, if you have an air gun to R & R nut's & bolts.

Thanks for clearing this up, especially for things like bearings and shifters; things that many do not think about especially when looking at a preowned.

There's something above the incremental value of the model year in this between an '06 and an '07. I'm not sure if the public has caught on though.

im getting ready to have mine replaced on a 07 with about 45000 miles on it. after reading some of the posts on this forum and on the net regarding the wheel bearings needing to be replaced around the 40-45000 mile mark i wonder if this is something that should be recalled or something. is this a repair that is normal on a car with so little miles on it? ive owned many cars in my lifetime and ive never had to replace a wheel bearing.

Don't start using the recall word!!!!!! It is just the type hub made and used today and failure at low miles is common in all cars not just the HHR or GM.

The type of hub bearing used today is similar in most vehicles today. It is not uncommon to see them fail at 60,000 and at times less.

They use this type hub as it has less rolling resistance for better MPG. But they do not have the strength of a old roller taper bearing like we used to use.

The so called warped rotors are often really uneven wear from hubs with too much play. The rotor should have only .002 play in the hub. If it has more the rotor will wobble hitting the pads and wearing the rotor in a uneven way.

Note much of the claimed warp started around the time these hub showed up in the 80's.

Many hubs I have checked are not good but not failed in terms of noise or feel they just have too much play.

These hubs are similar in most car RWD and FWD anymore and trucks.

It is not a bad idea if you can afford to check and replace them at over 60,000 miles. Few people do. I don't... If you do replace them you should replace both at higher miles. Also use a good qulity one like Timken as the qulity of the cheaper ones is spotty. I have seen some work but often see them fail 5-10K miles later.

I really should replace the ones on my GTP they has too much play at 70K but they are still rolling. I hope to replace the car soon.

They are not cheap for a good bearing but at least they are easy to replace.

I've got to do this on the drivers side of my car... Ordered them from rockauto for $171+

I'm hoping this is as easy as people say it is... I don't even have the patience to work on drum brakes.
