Wheel bearing replacement
I tried replacing the wheel hub last night, and after getting all the nuts out, the thing was rusted to the place it mounts into... It wasn't stuck on the spindle (the grooved thing in the middle). Unfortunately, after i was done pounding on it, it had turned enough to where i could not get the bolts back in. We have an auto shop 5 minutes from here, so I'm going to bolt everything back together as good as i can, and drive RRREEEAAALLLYYY slowly to have them do the labor.
Hopefully the passenger side will be a lot easier to do than the drivers side was...

Unfortunately, now she wobbles when breaking from HWY speeds... I took her back to the mechanic and he blamed it on me doing my own brakes. Said he noticed it during the test drive afterwords, but assumed i knew about it since i did the brakes. He said if it wasn't from the brakes, it was from my banging on it trying to get the old hub off (even though that's exactly what they do to get it off, they even showed me the hammer they use)
I plan to take it all apart when i got home from work tonight, anything specific i should look for?
she only wobbles/shutters when I apply normal braking force from HWY speeds... not when i speed up or anything.
Would a bad ABS connection cause this?

You may even need to use some sandpaper to remove any rust buildup.
Asking about this for a friends HHR. Passenger side wheel bearing needs replaced after being forced onto a curb.
I've replaced the wheel bearings on several Jeeps including my own, and it sounds like its a very similar process.

Is this about right?
Anyone know what size the axle nut is? I know I don't have anything that large in my tools, and usually end up having to rent it.

I'm getting what appears to be grease on the drivers side wheel. Doesn't seem to be coming from CV boot. Wondering if it could be fron the hub assembly. I only have 27,500 mi on it. Are any of you seeing anything like this before yours failed?
I am pretty sure I have a bearing going out as well. I would like to know how you guys know for sure if it is the bearing or not? I have an '07 and for me, once I get to about 25mph and up to about 70mph I get this constant *whir* of a noise. As I increase speeds, it gets a bit higher pitched until it fades away at around 70ish. But as I slow down, it gets deeper and louder. I am thinking that it is a wheel bearing.
My dad has an '08 and he said just two weeks ago that he was having a noise that was getting louder so he took it into the shop and they said it was the wheel bearing and they replaced it under warranty. They also said that his sway bar end links were going bad, but those weren't covered. I told him not to worry about the end links as I just replaced mine not even a month ago myself and it was really easy so I would do it for him. Crazy thing is, now I think my wheel bearing is going out. He's also starting to get the wobble while braking on the highway. Something I had 3 months after owning the car and then fixed by putting on drilled slotted rotors with ceramic pads.
It's just weird that we both have two HHR's, two different years, I have an LT, he has an LS and they are both having the same issues. It makes me wonder if everyone is having these exact same issues? Also, he's got about 21k miles on his, I have 90k on mine (I commute 70+ miles each day.)
