DW I read your post that your 2009 2.2 auto has demonstrated these issues It could be the 2.4 has VVT and the 2.2 doesn't, at least my 2007 2.2 doesn't.
Does you 09 2.2 have VVT??
It could be the program in the TCM is different from 2.2 to 2.4.

I see that bikerboy89, the OP has an '08 2.2 automatic.

2009 2.2L should be VVT, unless they snuck a mid-year change in, 2009 was supposed to be the first of VVT in the 2.2L.

I thought so but wanted to be sure, if DW's 2009 has VVT then it's the 2.2 TCM program and nothing to do with VVT equipped HHR's , I've never seen a complaint about this from an automatic SS owner for instance, or 2.4 automatic owner.

Have a look at the valley in the valve cover, if it has the two solenoids on the passengers side of #1 cylinder then it has VVT, the intake side of the valve cover maybe embossed Ecotec VVT also. I'm asking you to run out today but maybe next time you check your oil?
I'm like a coonhound on a scent , but it's a little hot out today for that!
