Front Hub Axle Nut

Front Hub Axle Nut

I have new front bearing hubs and planning to install this weekend. My question is the nuts for the rear axle hubs the same as the front? O'Reillys and Auto Zone only list axle nuts for the rear.

dealer says they are not the same and did not have the front ones in stock. Anyone buy them from a local auto parts store?

Are you're talking about the big center axle nut?
If so, remember that you only have axles in the front.
The rears have bolt up hub assemblies because of the no axle design.

If you are talking about the 3 BOLTS on the back side, no reason to replace unless broken. Just torque to 85 lb. ft., if you are a worrier put some thread lock on them.

Yea the center axle nut. Never really looked at the rear, but I assumed it had a stub shaft with nut. Anyway the listing at OReillys said "rear" on the description but I thought they looked like the ones on the front. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/se...HHR&vi=1441022
Weard that I saw them listed again for a cobalt and it says front. I guess I will just have to go by and look at what they actually have, I was trying to save a wasted trip but guess I don't have a choice. They also list two part#s one is for a cotter pin and the other is for a staked nut.

No center axle nuts in the rear.

You can go to gmpartsdirect and look up the parts. They have some good illustrations that show the breakdown of parts.

Staked, not keyed. That's why they want you to replace it. I didn't, no problems, won't recommend it though.

I had to reuse the front axle flange nut, strangely one did not come with the bearing hub assembly,I torqued to spec, drove 100 miles and retorqued to spec, if I remember correctly 155 ft lbs. no issue after three months and 15,000 Klms.

New ones come with new Axles, but not new hubs. Like I said I did it, but I'd be irresponsible to recommend it to anyone.
