How many auto trans. replaced due to -this-?

Before my brother sold me the car, a few years ago, it failed on the road and wouldn't shift forward because the low range was inaccessible, and reverse wouldn't function either.
He had a pal in the transmission repair business who diagnosed -this- as being a common failure point on these transmissions, and a decidedly simple (and fairly low cost) repair. Got the car going again for a good bit under $200.

Yep, we've seen a number of these recently. I wouldn't say common, but it does happen.

Common enough that the transmission guy knew exactly what was needed, and the pipeline was supplied at a rate about half what this GM part number commanded.
I think with this 2010's case it occurred at about the 120,000 mile mark, and that supply pipe fractured off and robbed those transmission circuits of fluid supply altogether.
An in-frame repair, complete fluid change as a side benefit.

He knew because the specific symptoms. There are billions of 4T40/4T45 and variant transmission out there, not just HHR all FWD GM vehicles under 4500 lb. since 1980.
Common, because not much else fails.
