Newbie transmission question

My stepdad and I have acquired about 10 hhrs over the past few years, we are now at a point to where we are able to start working on them. Every one we have has an automatic trans and we have some of both the 2.2 and the 2.4 . I know that they started putting the vvt on the 2009 and later but what about the transmissions? Do all the autos have the 4T45? Do all the autos interchange with each other no matter what the year is? Does the 2.2 and 2.4 have the same trans that will interchange.

Yes. All 4T45E.
All 2.4L are VVT. 2009 on 2.2 and 2.4 are Flex Fuel and VVT.

Thanks for having me. I've been reading through the older post and have seen both of your names a lot, y'all are the goats of the hhr forum!!! So yeah, some junkyard told my stepdad that the 2.4 took some kind of a bigger transmission....... But if I'm understanding y'all correctly as long as it an automatic that comes out of an hhr its gonna be the same? I have a 2008 2.2 with a hole in the block and he has a newer model with the 2.4 that needs a trans, I'm gonna do some bartering if I have any leverage. Lol. So straight swap, from the 2.2 to the 2.4 with no changes?

2.2 to 2.4 isn’t a straight swap , even post 2009 VVT models have different ECM ‘s and some sensors and throttle body.

Steve. He means swapping the tranny from the 2.2 to the 2.4 engine car. Yes, it will swap.

Yes, just the transmission for now. I'm sure I will have plenty of engine questions in the future though. Thanks for ya'lls help, I will let him know tomorrow that I have a good transmission that he needs and see what I can trade it for! Lol

I thought I had a lot of them until I read your comment!! At this point y'all know more about these hhrs than the techs at the chevy dealership. Glad to know there is a place I can come and get an answer to ANY question I have. Thanks again!!!!

When you swap transmissions it probably doesn't hurt to reset the TCM. I suspect that's the reason hellshotrod notices some shifting differences.

Different years, different engines, different models have different software. The TCM also learn the driver, so it is smart to at least reset that.

Will work without.
