Did they a put a new filter in it?
ChevyMgr-

I did not see the fluid myself as I dropped my HHR off in the morning, went home, and then they called me in the afternoon to let me know it was almost done. When I got there, they had already put the pan back on. What they told me, their words, was that there was "metal shavings" in the pan. They did not say there was "chunks" of metal or anything. I asked if a fluid and filter change would maybe fix it, and they said "that they doubt it would do much good, we'd probably be right back here again where we started a few months from now." Do you think a new filter and fluid change would be beneficial? I guess I had given up hope by now and was going to start saving up for a new or used transmission.

I am not saying a filter change will fix, but now that you state it seems to be shifting correctly, it wouldn't have hurt to do that.

But since they think it needs replacing or repairing, I can see where they wouldn't put one in.

It's a 50/50 shot. Back in the days when I serviced many transmissions with high mileage, we would always warn the customers about the odds. I've seen slipping ones cured and good ones sent to slipping like crazy. All because of a fluid and filter change. It's your gamble. Problem is,if it works out,how long will it last.

Its like running through a cow pasture in the dark, half the time you miss the ----, and half the time you end up scraping your boots before you can go inside.

But when the dealer says that they dropped the pan, but did not change the fluid, WTF. I believe that there may be a communication problem. More likely the dealer "pulled the dipstick" heh,heh and looked at the fluid. They just do not do that for free!

There is no dip stick to check levels. If they pulled the pan, the fluid dumps out, so they must have replaced the lost fluid.

I think that was a response to a posting I had just moved into it's own thread, just prior to their posting. Call it bad timing.
