All automatic transmissions have a manual valve. It happens to be the valve that is moved when you use manual shifting. WOW imagine that.

 

Well, Oldblue came over on Saturday and we replaced the transmission in the 2011 with the one from the 2007.

The car works now.

Since I have it, I am going to replace the timing and balance chains along with the two actuators.

I like the new front timing chain guide from ZZP, it's a lot sturdier than the OEM guide. But the price-$80. I'll have to think about it.

What do you know about the ZZP guide? It does LOOK a lot sturdier. From the color and shape it looks like it’s machined from Torlon or PEEK. What does ZZP have to save about it? The website says virtually nothing.

A member here had his front guide break in just a few months. That will go into my thinking. A front guide with no chance of breaking would be worth twice the price.

And don’t forget the front guide upper bolt in the 2.2 out of Oldblue and the two other guide bolts from ARP.

 

I have had the front guide break on my SS about 15K miles after I did the timing chain replacement.

The "regular" Cloyes front guide is $10 from Rock Auto. The ZZP front guide is $80 (x10 over the regular one).

However, if you figure the costs (gaskets, etc) and labor involved with prematurely replacing a relatively new front guide, the extra $70 doesn't seem too bad. Not to mention the possibility of a grenaded engine if the chain jumps too many teeth.

Amen to that! We just need to determine if the new guide is as good as it’s advertised!

 

I just ordered the new guide.

We shall see what it looks/feels like when it gets here.

BTW, my son took the valve cover and the front timing cover off on my daughter's car. He just called and said the timing chain doesn't look too bad, but the front chain guide is broken (surprise, surprise).

Hmm, normal to find that problem. Did you order a front guide upper replacement bolt?

 

I figured I would use the one from Oldblue.
