trans swap 2008 to 2010

Just picked up a high mile but running 2010 Panel and am putting pieces together to do a full driveline rebuild. Rather then rebuild whats in it i am going to do a seperate engine and trans then swap in when done. The panel is a 2010 2.2 VVT automatic and i have a 2008 2.2 non vvt with around 100K on it that id like to use the trans from. Will this interchange with the 2010 alright? plan is to get another 2.2 VVT engine, rebuild that then assemble an entire drivetrain to swap in. Thanks all . . .

The transmissions are the same. Engines not so much. You might need to do some serial number matching in the computers, probably not.
To get thing totally correct the ECM will have to have the crankshaft variation learned, if you don't swap ECM to engine. Should be done anyway.

I’ve swapped 2007 automatic to 2011 2LT , shifts and runs nicely.
as for the non VVT to VVT , that’s a no go.

Thanks guys, i kinda figured it was a no-go for my 08 non VVT into my 10 VVT engine bay. I was mostly curious if the 08 trans was compatible because i know the mileage and that it was in good working order, i bought the 08 as a complete wrecked parts car. I am going to keep my eyes out for a proper coded 2.2 VVT to rebuild but its good to know the trans part of my plan should work. BTW if anyone wants a free good running 2.2 non VVT engine its up for grabs.

While that transmission is out of a car, change the shift solenoids, much easier than in the car!

Good idea!

Thru the driver’s side dropping the cradle and transmission isn’t to bad , much easier out and either on the floor or a bench !

Back when i did my solenoids i just followed all the great help on here and in all honesty after what i learned in the tech threads and doing it myself i feel i could probably do the whole thing in about three hours. Definetly some good knowledge to have with these cars. Really looking forward to rebuilding the driveline in the new to me Panel. Might have to see if i can gleen some performance tips and tricks off the site here.
