What does this bolt do???

2097 manual transmission.

Real quick, my mechanic took this bolt out from the bottom of the transmission. It's located on the bottom to the side of the viewport, and looking in the viewport you can see it run up into the transmission.

Dealing with a host of problems, and he pulled it wanting to see if it's help, and nobody seems to know if it does anything special.

For the record, loosening it and retightening it gave me back resistance in the clutch pedal following a clutch master cylinder replacement.

It might help more if you took a picture of it installed.

What is this viewport?

Again, I'm at a shop and the mechanic pulled it out. To see what would happen.

I used the phrase "real quick." Here's what you can discern from that:
1. Nobody at this shop has an answer,
2. I'm hoping somebody can give me an answer to this question before my mechanic f**** my engine up.

To my knowledge is the only 13mm on the bottom of the transmission and it sits right next to the viewport.

Sounds like you need a mechanic that knows what the #%#@ they are doing.

This is a ridiculous situation you are in. Tell him to put it back and find another .mechanic.

I'm pretty sure all the manufacturers install random bolts that aren't needed for anything...

Pictures would help, I don’t see it in the GM view for manual transmission bolts, mounting or otherwise

Oh, my. Yes, This guy doesn't have a clue. Pulling random bolts to see what something does? Is he going to pay for a new transmission or motor if he ruins them? Run away! Run away!
