There are three protrusions on each tail light/reverse light. They fit into the three notches in the body. The foam should be tight against the body, otherwise water could get into your HHR.

In mine there are big pieces of foam insulation that you need to take out of the taillight wells to get to the bolts. I realize the gaskets around the taillights themselves have to be secure. When you take yours apart you will see. Todd (uma)

Outstanding car. Very nice work. I do have a question, I notice that many folks who have nicely modified HHR's leave the rear wiper. I guess it is a matter of personal taste, but I just think it really cleans it up to eliminate it. Why keep it?
