I know I am a nerd but mine comes on at about 2 gallons left. The mileage is different depending on my average mpg for that tank of fuel. In most cars the fuel pump is in the tank and the fuel keeps the pump cool. I appreciate the lot of you and the information from this site. yall have helped me more than once.

 

I have only had the low fuel light come on once in my HHR The DIC said I had ~50 miles of fuel left which is about 1.5-2 gallons left in the tank. I knew that a station was near so I continued on my trip to thw station. I usually fill up when the fuel guage is just above the red mark and pump in 14-15 gallons.

 

Old Lar. So, the HHR holds 16.2 gals and when you fill up you said you put in 14-15 gals. You said your low fuel light has only come on once. Sounds like your low fuel light means "really low fuel" . Don't think I would go too far if the light comes on.
