I thought so!
I had fun with the horse power and tinkering back in the day,
468 BBC with TH 400 stuffed into a 1983 GMC S15
355 SBC in the 1988 C1500 moxies the throttle body, installed 372 posi rear end.
got tired of paying over $100.00 per fill up 10 years ago, don’t want to imagine the expensive high test fill ups today!

Yeah, I feel nothing special to the HHR, except it was a reliable, economical, good utility, and decent vehicle for vacation trips. My wife loved it and constantly mentions, I should not have sold it. And she loved the seats and ride. Go figure......she's been a Cadillac owner for years and always enjoyed luxury......if you know what I mean.

I'd just like to have another HHR for general running around. Use whatever new vehicle I buy as the "special" one.

Aw man well it wasn’t too many miles of smooth sailing it seems. The occasional rattle on start up is back albeit it’s only for a half second now instead of 2-3 and I changed the oil for the first time (~3,200mi) since the timing chains were done and I see a ton of sparkly bits and black carbon/plastic bits in the old filter. Almost looks like a ground up guide.

Is there any way this could be residual from the previous failure or did this new timing set only last for this long? I’m so sorry I didn’t get any pictures I’ll see if I can in a bit. Oil looked fine no sparkles in the oil that I could see.

I thought Cloyes was good maybe I just got a bad part? The shop will happily take it back apart and look but I’m on the hook for the bill since I supplied the parts. I also just noticed that it puffs grey smoke out the exhaust when revved. No idea how long it’s been doing that ugh. Smells like lean exhaust. Rear O2 is 0.70v and front o2 is 0.10/0.15 to 0.80 back and forth.

Sensor #1 is supposed to jump around. Your readings for #2 are all .7 if you change the resolution. #2 only gives a health assessment of the cat, it actually response time that is important.
If you know what you are looking at fuel trims are more important when you are worried about lean/rich. Either of those conditions would trigger a CEL.

It doesn’t matter how old the timing chain is, the front guide upper bolt can vibrate loose and then the guide gets chewed up! Did the shop apply Loctite to the bolt? Did you supply a replacement bolt for the upper front guide bolt?

the smoke can be oil burn off , rings or valve guide seals getting old. It could be coolant , indicating a head gasket issue starting to appear.

Shoot I do not know if the shop used Loctite and I only supplied a new bolt if it came with the Cloyes kit which I'm sure hoping it did. I'll keep driving it and see if the smoke clears. I can't pay for the labor to replace that guide again so I guess for now I'm going to just make sure my AAA is up to snuff and just send it.

Some great news though I reset the econ meter when I left Tucson headed back up here and as long as I was at 65 I got the best mileage this car has ever got which was 29.5. I usually cruise at 85-90 so I never saw over 23. These cars would've thrived if they could've shoved the Malibu's 6 speed in them. The 4 speed just can't help itself from hunting once you get up to a certain speed.

If any of the timing components are damaged, you will destroy your engine if you continue to operate it. This requires immediate diagnosis.

Be real frank with me, what would I be looking at once I put it through diag? Just replacing the guide itself or does the whole timing system have to be re-done? If it all has to be done over again I guess I'm either going to learn how to do it myself or I'm just going to drive it till it blows up then sell it to a junkyard. I've put so much money into this car it's depressing and it's just causing strong feelings resentment to drive at this point :/

If the timing chain has been flailing because the front guide is damaged, then yes replace the timing chain and guides, and tensioner

Cloyes kit 9-4201SX timing chain
Cloyes kit 9-4202SX balance shaft chain
Melling 5499 GMB replacement bolt. OR
Dorman 917954 replacement bolt your choice.
