Yeah, I guess it does depend on your climate and how the car is stored.

Yes, I always wait until the computer tells me to change my oil. I am not a believer in the 3 months or 3,000 miles rule.

3/3000 rule is way outdated. I use Mobil 1 full syn. with a WIX filter and have no problem going 10-15K miles on an oil change. If the DIC say change earlier I will. With an interval that long, I make sure to check the level on a regular basis.

Personally I see the GMOLS system as a true indicator of when to change your oil as opposed to purely opinion, which we all seem to have. The fact is each of us have unique driving requirements.

I'm currently at 7,200 miles on my oil change, with the DIC indicating 50% oil life remaining.

My work commute is basically all highway, 93 miles each direction, equating to 930 miles per week based on a five (5) day work week.

I changed just my oil filter today. I plan to change my oil when the DIC is indicating near 0%.

For added protection however, I use AMSOIL 5W-30, full synthetic motor oil which is designed and rated for extended oil change intervals.

Not sure who manufactures the highest quality cartridge filter for the GM 2.2/2.4 Liter EcoTech engine. Visually the DELCO, FRAM and WIX filters all look alike. All appear to rated to filter down to the 30-40 micron nominal purity level as near as I can determine.

Regards,

HHRANDY

One of the great things about the filter for the ecotec is that you can see exactly how the filter is constructed when you pull it out of the box. No tin can cover to hide a cheaply made filter.

My OnStar report says I will need an oil change at 8500 miles.

my last oil change was at 12600 miles on 7/22/06, I just hit 20025 when I got home this morning and the "Change Oil Soon" message just came on when it hit 5%. Looks like I got 7400 out of this oil change, not bad!
