In the owners manual it claims that if you use anything less than 91 with the 2.4l then your acceleration will be slowed and you will hear a knocking noise...

I've been using 87 octane in my 2.4L and I will admit that recently after I turn of the car, I do hear pinging. Next fill up will be with 91. I'll let you know if the pinging stops.

I agree 87 octane since day 1 and no pinging, buy my gas at Indian Res with no problems in engine. 2000 plus miles so far!

Maybe I'm mistaken, does the pinging sound like little rocks hitting the inside of tin can? Kind of like tick, tick, tick tick, tick after the engine has been turned off a couple of minutes.

I don't hear anything after I turn mine off, (I have the 2.4L). Try changing your gas, just too see, it sys that after you run the 91 or higher for a bit it should stop, if not take it to the dealer....but let us know either way, I'm curious on this....

I think I will do that. I'll try the 91 and see what results I get. I'll be taking a nice 2K road trip next week so I'll definantly experiment with octane levels.

Will post results upon my return

Exhaust Cooling Sounds

That possibly is the exhaust system cooling down, mine clicks/ticks after shutting off also. It is no problem, just a hot metal cooling down.
