Well at least that is where my speedometer goes up to Just curious, I have a new to me 2007 1LT that started its life up in Canada, later is was converted for sale in the states and the speedo goes to 2oo MPH, this can't be normal??? I wonder why a 200 MPH speedo was put in instead of the 120 MPH version?

 

Ever hear of something called the metric system?
That '200' is kilometers (per hour), and so is your odometer

 

maybe it's an SSS speedo

 

I guess I just assumed that when the conversion was made they would have done an upgrade to the speedometer to the 120 version here stateside. yes 200 is metric and yes I have heard of it one or twice but this IS calibrated for MPH not KPH, just makes it a little harder for these eyes to read

It's simple to convert the speed-0 readings to MPH or kilometers..

It's done thru the DIC. Which sounds like they did that & not the speed-O guage.

 

Kinda the opposite of the mid-80's Mustangs that had a speedo that only reached 85. My Ford Escort had one of these and I was quite amused one day to be burying the speedo by the odometer when Michigan traffic was moving at a steady clip of 90+. I dangerously had to pull off when the car started to overheat. Fun while it lasted, though.

Sort of reminds me of a time years ago, my mother had an 84 or 85 Buick Century four door sedan with a 4.3 V6 in it. She was complaining about some issues with the car and I took it out on the highway for a test drive. I looked down and thought the damn speedometer was broken because the needle was missing. I had wound that Buick up way past 85 and the needle was buried past the display. That car could fly, no shakes shimmys or anything. I never did find any issues with the car.

 

All HHRs sold in Canada have the "up to 220" speedo dial. You pick the units wanted from the DIC menu. We also use the slightly different "metric RPM" scale. In your case, I suspect that the cost of switching the dial over was the issue. It's still legal, just not very convenient.
