2009 HHR needs cylinder head replacement

Head has hairline cracks allowing oil out. Is the cylinder head the same across all models of HHR? Can I place a head off of a 2.2L 2008 onto my 2.2L 2009?

Welcome to the site! The 2008 2.2 head is different from a 2009 as the 09 has VVT and the 2008 doesn’t. So you will need to find a usable 2009 thru 2011 2.2 head.

Your local pick a part may have a used head for less $ , a gamble as it may have same issues yours has.

Who cracked it? Sure it is a crack? If it resulted from overheating there are probably more problems.

Unsure what caused it. Car handled like normal. Noticed a burning oil smell so I checked and noticed a quite massive leak. From there the Valve cover gasket has been replaced, as have a few O rings. It’s such a small crack it isn’t really visible, but oil just pours right out of it.

Depending on a couple thing, a repair might be possible.

A couple different things have been tried. A few different types of epoxies, but can’t find anyone nearby who can weld aluminum at a decent price

Clean it up and weld it yourself

Can’t hurt to try! The heads already junk, you might just be able to save it!

First I have ever heard of. The only way I can imagine is not using a torque wrench and angle gauge when replacing it.
