Smile 2009 LS - Keyless Entry???

First of all I'm very excited to back to this forum. Unfortunately my 2007 HHR LT (Silver Surfer) got hit by an Iowa hail storm several years ago and damage was so bad that it wasn't fixable without replacing entire headlining and sunroof, etc. So had to sadly get rid of her.

New story: just bought my 18 year son Silver Surfer 2 - 2009 HHR LS.

I might be more excited but of course getting a teenager excited about anything this day and age is almost impossible.

The LS only comes with keys and you can't lock all doors with the a turn of a key. Is that a feature of the LS? Should I second turn of the key lock all doors or do we have to hit the lock button on the inside before closing the door? I see a lot of phone calls coming my way in the near future. "Dad, I locked my keys in the car...

Also how can I find out if I can buy a factory fob or if I will have to go aftermarket keyless entry?

Look forward to sharing and chatting with everyone again!!!

It has keyless entry, you just need to get a fob and have it programmed.

Dorman is selling a fob including a programmer module on eBay and many auto parts stores. We have mixed reviews of the product.

Get a free digital Owner Manual from the link in my sig. All is explained therein.

Thank you for the quick response! This is why I loved this forum. I will check out both.

Greatly appreciated.

Check the RPO sheet stuck to the glove box door , look for AP3, you’ll need a remote start door fob 15114374 for that or the simple lock fob 15777636 for the standard LS fob

https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...y+remote,10433

And they are all over EBay but still a dealership or locksmith has to code them to the car.

I'm new here and looking for help with getting keyless entry as well and hopefully remote start. I don't have the code AP3. Now what do I do? Heidi

Hi Heidi, to the forums!

You should have keyless entry, you just need a fob, and program the car to recognize it.

If you have an automatic transmission, but no AP3, check out this how-to https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/how-...ion-ap3-28551/

The link RJ provided only works on 2008 models.

Check in the DIC customization menu (look in your Owner Manual) if there is an option to turn remote start on/off you have remote start. If not there your only option is after-market.

Yes, you do have keyless entry if you have a fob programmed to the car.

AP3 would indicate remote start feature.
keyless entry was standard on all HHR’s
