The vehicle you see pictured is not an HHR at all, even though the article says it is. In fact, the front end parts more closely resemble a Dodge Ram or Durango.

I happen to know the owner of this company. His name is Dave March, and the company is based in Orange County, CA. For years, Dave owned one of the biggest auto body shops in the entire Orange County area. In the late 90's some investment group started a 'chain' of body shops and were buying up existing shops for big money. Dave sold his and then started 'inventing', and this amphibious vehicle is the result (this one is around generation 3 BTW). Well later, the body shop chain went belly-up, and Dave was able to buy it back for pennies on the dollar......also - he's a real nice guy. That's him you see driving the vehicle.

Saw this car on discovery channel. Pretty cool, eliminates the need for trailer and hitch. That is one serious suspension setup, complete with bow planes!

Yup very cool. I would assume the body is custom fibreglass though?

If anything they maybe used the front doors, cowl, and hood from a Dodge Durango, but that's a maybe.

I believe it's all molded Fiberglas, except for some trim and hardware, headlight assemblies, etc.......
