2011; how can I override interior lighting
2011; how can I override interior lighting
I'm replacing an old Venture with a used LT HHR for a service vehicle. Chevrolet had a switch on the Venture which disabled interior lighting allowing doors to be open without them coming on ... not any interior lamps, even reading and switch selected ones.
I want to add a switch for similar functionality. I found a wiring diagram for a 2008 which suggests that switching a DK BLU/WHT wire connected to A3 on the body control module would accomplish that function. I'm unable to find newer wiring diagrams. Does anyone know if this is the wiring used on 2011?
Where is the BCM and/or how is the wiring run to the headliner?
It also looks like, in that model, fuse 27 and the interior lights relay in on the BCM, but I wonder if switching that far back is wise, or if the BCM will detect it as a "blown fuse"?

Or, use an old trick from the 60's, when at a drive-in movie or
..... and leaving the door open.
use and old key and mount it to the pillar liner just above the contact button that activates the lights when the door is opened. Simply turn the key down when you do not wish the lights to illuminate. On the HHR's, because of the design of the button you may need to use a raised block.
I haven't looked to see if this would work....but something to consider.
