I have the 2006 2lt, 2.4 engine since I made my air filter I find Im punching it a lot as I like punch I get so if I had the 2.2 I would not be punching it as much so I most likely be getting better mileage with the 2.2.

If you get a 2009-2011 with the 2.2L, you will notice less of a difference between it and the 2.4L. I test drove both when I bought mine and I honestly couldn't tell them apart, aside from the 2.4 having a little deeper growl on acceleration. The 2.2 is a pretty strong engine. I drove it cross country loaded to the gills and had no issues at all with power. Mileage is nearly identical with either so you really just have to drive both to see.

Since I originally posted this thread I have purchased TWO .. 1LT HHR's.
One with a 2.2L and the latest one with the 2.4L.

You are Dead On with your Description of the Two.

The amazing thing is that I have checked the mileage twice on the 2.4L with only 577 miles on it currently. Not even loosened up yet.

Took delivery 52 miles filled.
First Fill ...6 gallons 252 mileage. Drove 200 miles. 33.33 MPG.

Second Fill ... Start 252 miles,
Drove 325 miles, fill up 10 1/2 gallons @ 577 mileage.
30.95 MPG

87 Octane Costco and Chevron fuel.

Both were hiway and town driving but probably 70% hiway.

I like them both ....

You may see more performance difference with that 2.4L if you used 93 octane, as the engine is designed to use it and the 2.2L isn't.

Glad to hear! Good choice to have one of each :)

I agree too that using higher octane fuel in the 2.4 will give it a little more noticeable power increase. I had a 2008 Saturn Aura with the 2.4L and I def noticed a difference when I used regular gas compared to premium.
