Smile 22 May 2007 HHR considerations

Just purchased a new HRR LT1 2006 model year.

It was exactly what I wanted. In terms of being a cross over vehicle that was NOT really an SUV. Had a good stability ie would not tip. Had 5 star crash rating front and side without necessarily spending more money for side curtain airbags.

Has a lot of carrying room and if I get tired on the road I can roll out some foam and a sleeping back grab a pillow and take a good cat nap.

I agree with criticsms about the window controls and means you have to really take your eye off the road when coming upto a toll booth. But with good planning i.e., rolling down early then that is the way to go.

I like the sitting position but the pillars on the car mean you have to do a "lot more " looking and this is not really a car for a learner driver.

I have bought some stick on round all mirrors to help eleminate the blind spots on this car.

Again, becaaaaaaaaause of reduced visibility backing up is more of a problem in a shopping parking lot. It seems just as I am backing up someone walks behind the car or much worse lets a small child stray behind the vehicle. A back up switch that could activate a back up warning when you need it would be helpful.

I like the modern driver information centre but if the car could be made more retro inside I would also love some "old fashion" looking gauages that measure
oil pressure, volts, and amps, oil temperature, and perhaps battery condition indicator.

I do not like the fact they I will probably have to fit a running board and mud flaps so that the car does not look really bad in the winter but also that the thin paint does not get easily damaged.

The firestones are Ok but if I had thought about it I might have asked the dealer to take them off and put on a more premium all season radial.

Disc brakes all round or Standard ABS would have been a real plus.

Question does anyone know the least expensive way to get the fog lights installed?

There's a pinned fog light tutorial in the Appearance section, and you can get back-up sensors added to any vehicle. Check with a local stereo/alarm shop. Should be $200-$300 installed and well worth it.

Hi to you all. Astonmartin7
First of all welcome.

I think you will get used to the window controls. I used the controls every day pulling into the base and now I never have to take my eyes off the road.

Try adjusting your mirrors. I have no side or rearward blind spots while driving. Rememver you have 2 side & a rear view mirror. When set properly, they work very well. As a hint, the side mirrors are not for rear viewing. With mine, once a car is lost in the side mirror, i can already see them with my perferial (sp) vision. Give it a shot. Backing up in a parking lot is a problem with people reguardless of the car. You just have to watch for folks.

Running boards, do a search. Paint is no different than the other million plus cars on the raod today. Clear coat paint is much different than the old.

Not sure what problems you are having with the tires. WOuld I buy them? No. But I cna't say I would have bought any original tire on any new car I have ever owned. But no issues with them either.

You want factory or aftermartket fogs? Aftermarket is cheaper and can be done for under $50 yourself. I did a pretty nice write up on the install. CHeap and easy. Stocks will cost you more and you will have to get the BCM programmed after.

Good luck and enjoy.

An easy fix is to just buy the bulbs with built in alarms. They "beep-beep" while in reverse.
